Tour Leader

Duncan Wass

Duncan grew up in South Australia, and in 1977 made the leap from studying Road Design to Theatre at the University of Queensland.  He first met Scott McGregor, the founder of Railway Adventures, in 1982 when they co-starred in a production of ‘The Tempest’ for Queensland Theatre Company.  Duncan went on to work as an actor for the next 15 years, including being an inaugural cast member of the blockbuster musical, Les Miserables, being B1 in Bananas in Pyjamas for a while, and being a major part of the Bell Shakespeare success for many years. In 1999 he and his new wife Barbara relocated to Japan to live and teach English for a couple of years. Duncan and Barbara owned and operated a Teahouse and Gallery for ten years in the Blue Mountains before establishing a holiday accommodation management business. As well as his love of exploring Australia and his extensive experience in Japan, Duncan has travelled to the USA, UK, France, Italy, Cambodia, the Philippines, and more recently, Borneo. Duncan has led over 25 tours with Railway Adventures since 2021 and loves the freedom and camaraderie of train travel.  His joyfulness and sense of fun on tour is commented on by everyone he travels with.
