This fully-escorted 7-day adventure follows the route and celebrates the story of the Gippsland railway, which transformed eastern Victoria during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. You’ll depart Melbourne on a modern regional train along the current main line towards Bairnsdale, transferring by coach to explore some of the former branch lines and the towns they helped shape. Our journey will take us to historic Noojee, gold-rush Walhalla, the Latrobe Valley, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Marlo and Sale. Along the way, enjoy spectacular mountain and coastal scenery, stay at Walhalla’s historic Star Hotel, ride the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, cruise the Gippsland Lakes, discover ancient caves and regional food and wine, and meet passionate locals who bring the region’s history to life. Combining railway heritage, fascinating stories, memorable experiences and beautiful landscapes, this is a unique way to discover Gippsland and the remarkable role the railway played in its development.
