Interested in the prehistoric creatures that once roamed this ancient land?

This 11-day fully escorted exploration of the Australian Dinosaur trail will leave you awestruck. Discover the secrets of the Mesozoic era between 230 and 65 million years ago.

120 million years ago the ancient Eromanga Sea covered a vast area of Australia, from the Gulf of Carpentaria to the Lake Eyre Basin.

By the end of the Cretaceous period, it was gone but didn’t disappear. It remains today, underground. We call it the Great Artesian Basin.

During its time it was home to sea monsters, and dinosaurs along its coastline. The land that existed at that time is unrecognisable today, but it has left evidence of its inhabitants.

The ever-moving black soil plains of western Queensland are unearthing a treasure trove of prehistoric animals, plants and footprints.

Our Dinosaur Discovery tour encompasses the wonderful museums – Kronosaurus Korner in Richmond, The Australian Age of Dinosaurs in Winton, and the Lark quarry footprints, better known as “the Dinosaur Stampede”.

We not only visit these famous places but also get the opportunity to see the preparation labs and even go digging for fossils.

Along the way, we visit fascinating places like Charters Towers, and Longreach, where we see gold stamping batteries, the Waltzing Matilda Centre, Qantas Founders Museum and Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

Our driver and co-guide Vicki, knows every animal, bird, and plant along the way and the history of the towns and vast rangeland properties.  This tour offers so much, in a part of Australia that many know so little about.

We top off the tour with a return to Brisbane on the overnight “Spirit of the Outback”, the last remaining sleeper train in Queensland. A wonderful way to end a Railway Adventure.

Overnight ‘Spirit of the Outback’

As a guide, this tour ticks so many boxes for me. My passion for rail, prehistoric animals, and the love of the Australian Outback. I enjoy the opportunity to show people the change in scenery from the lushly forested coast to the vast open plains of the big sky country west of the Great Divide.

The little towns along the way, the occasional long drives, the road trains, the old-fashioned accommodation, the train journeys, sunset dinners, flies and dust, make this a unique adventure for anyone who is tired of beaches and lazing around resorts.
